A student has turned two lunch periods worth of work into an animation project that earned
him second place in the Texas Media Awards competition. Sergio Villegas completed the stick
figure animation short while an 8th grader at K. White Junior High School. He is now a 9th
grader at Mission High School.
The Texas Media Awards is sponsored by the Texas Library Association.
Villegas’ project competed in the animation competition for grades 6-8. It is about a minute
long and is based on a musical… Continue

I haven't mentioned that I've been picked up as a contributor to both ValleyCentral.com as their Tech writer and Contempo Magazine as a general writer. It never occurred to me that I might be considered a writer; but everything I have done has led up to this. I hope I don't run out of things to say. Continue

You may have noticed that at the bottom of the site, there is a bar that comes out like on Facebook. It tells you how many members are online and allows you to chat. I added it over a week ago but forgot to mention it. Give it a try; see how you like it. Continue

I read an article, don't remember where, that asserted that modern generations no longer have to have class reunions because of Facebook, MySpace, and other social media. You can catch up with people you like without having to get together in person. You can also avoid the people you don't like. In my opinion, it's bullshit. The reason why I think this is because I'm pretty active in social media. I keep up with a lot of people on a lot of different sites. This includes people I've never met. Ev… Continue

I just want to briefly mention that I went to the Mission Junior High Fall Festival with my family last night. My daughter is enrolled there. Overall, we had fun. Our son bounced around in a moonjump. We had some stuff to eat. I was entertained by the karaoke performances on a portable stage. It's always fun to have family outings.
Was anybody here able to go? Continue

Hey everybody. I just want to let everybody know that we did OK during Hurricane Dolly. There was no damage to the house. There were some fallen branches and a couple trees in the neighborhood. We were lucky that the nasty part of the storm veered off to the North of Edinburg. It took FM 490 West instead of US 83. We spent most of the storm without power. Even now, I'm at Jitterz posting. Thankfully, nothing eventful happened during this storm.
How are all of you doing? Continue
Alma and I had a baby girl on April 30. She was born at McAllen Medical. The girl was 6 pounds 8 ounces. They are now both safely at home. We named the baby Io Evangeline Mata.

For those of you who celebrate, most I imagine, have a great Easter Sunday. I hope you spend it with friends and family. Enjoy watching the kids on their Easter egg hunts. They grow up, you know; before you know it they are too old to hunt for eggs.
Have fun!
Let's see some Easter pics. Continue

I recently had some cards made for MissionEagles.org to try to bring in more members. As I go to different places in town, I'll hand them out to people. If you would like some cards to help me find more members, let me know. We can meet up somewhere and I can give you some.
My goal is to add more people from different classes or even more members from our own class. Obviously, there are thousands of people who have graduated from MHS; so why not bring them all together?
The other day, I ran into Mr. Krulock at PostNet.He says he's still teaching at MHS and that since the clsss of 1993 things have never been the same. Apparently, we were the best class to go through MHS. He invited me to go visit him at the R building; yes, there is now an R building. I'll stop by soon to see what's up. Maybe you should visit Mr Krulock too. Continue

I don't know how many of you like to attend political events. At work, we managed to get Governor Perry to come down to Edinburg to present the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor to the mother of Freddy Gonzalez for his sacrifice. He'll be down here on Feb. 4th, the 40th anniversary of Sgt. Gonzalez's death. Mrs Gonzalez is in her 70s and has been anxiously awaiting this event since we got it passed in the Tx House of Reps. I don't know about the sales part of Bert Ogden, given I've never bought a new or used car there. However, I can assure you their body shop customer service is really sucking right now. I wrote about Bert Ogden Body Shop on RGV Life. Continue

You guys seem to be enjoying this site, so I took the liberty of buying the domain MissionEagles.org to make it easier to visit the site and share the address with other classmates. You will be able to access the site using both missioneagles.ning.com OR missioneagles.org. I chose the dot org because it was the only one available and because this is a non-profit proje… Continue

I saw a few new faces on the site this morning when I stopped by. I want to welcome the new members. You guys make yourselves at home on this site. It's always great to hear from other alumni from Mission High School. Of course, for some of us still living in Mission, Texas, it's not a big stretch. But, we can at least serve as a contact back home for those of you who have left the RGV. See you around. Continue
