I read an article, don't remember where, that asserted that modern generations no longer have to have class reunions because of Facebook, MySpace, and other social media. You can catch up with people you like without having to get together in person. You can also avoid the people you don't like. In my opinion, it's bullshit. The reason why I think this is because I'm pretty active in social media. I keep up with a lot of people on a lot of different sites. This includes people I've never met. Even so, this typically leads up to meeting these people somewhere. Let me give you a couple of examples or more.
Twitter
Twitter is mostly like Facebook status. That's all it is; what you are doing right now. Not later, later. Right now, right now. Twitter lends itself to tweetups. People say, "hey, I'm going to be at so-and-so on the 15th. Who wants to meet me there?" A tweetup is born.
Facebook
Eventually, you'll have an event that you want people to attend. People can reply with a Yes, Maybe, or No. It's the same thing. You're trying to get people to attend.
Upcoming.org
Upcoming.org is probably one of the best ways to announce an event. If you want people to show up, this is starting to be a great way to get the word out here in the RGV. It's still not "there"; but it's getting better.
My point is that social media is meant to get people together to do stuff. Social media is not a substitute for a life. It's a great way to get together with people and do shit. The problem is that nobody has the guts to take the lead. If nothing is happening, just take the initiative and get a reunion going. Your class officers were making shit up as they went anyway. There is no difference between you and them. Like Nike said, "Just do it".
